Meet The First Lady of The Acornhoek House Scene

Lowdown on a future first lady Of House Music

It’s not every day an 18year old girl dares to go head-to-head with the boys, and challenge them on a field that’s known to be a male dominated industry, especially in Acornhoek. Zakithi Mathebula is one youngster who’s got hear eye on conquering the international club scene but first, this young lady from Timbavati Trust wants to claim what’s hers and has her eye set on being the 1st lady of house music in Acornhoek. She gave SL the Lowdown on her life and a promising career that’s ahead of her.

1ST LADY OF ACORNHOEK HOUSE

DJ Zakie, as she’s known by her peers, is a young talented shy little girl, who’s on the right path of becoming an instant hit upon discovery. She’s down to earth, humble and respectful, which goes a long way in the industry that she’s about to embark on.  Just chatting to her makes one wonder if really girls her age still feel and behave the way she does. As if it’s not enough that this little girl is talented, she knows her place in the world and acts her age. This rising star completed her matric in 2011 but didn’t get the opportunity to further her studies like other matriculants do, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to achieve what she says is her purpose in life. “I fell in love with music while doing grade 7, music makes me relax and raises all my inner emotion whether happy or sad,” DJ Zakie says. So there’s no prize for guessing that she’s a big music fanatic.

Although she’s from a small remote area in Bushbuckridge, she dreams of one day becoming the world’s best female DJ, alongside her inspiration, DJ Zinhle who’s one of the best South African female DJs making international strides. “I’m also inspired by DJ DaCapo” said Zakhiti giggling, leaving suspicion of a possible crush. Typical normal playful teenage girl behavior.  She also mentions she loves hanging with friends and just doing what ordinary teens do, if she’s not horning her skills behind the decks that is.

YOUNG AT HEART

Her plans include being a household club Dj who will make people dance their butts off. “I see myself playing for big crowds in the near future” she says in her soft voice.  Pursuing music has always been her number one priority, no doubt about that.

She then takes us to her favorite spot in the entire world, behind the decks, showing the SL crew a lil bit of what she is made of, and DAMN!  She can mix a beat or two, all thanks to Stabuza Entertainment who took her in

ZAKIE ON THE MIX

And asked if she’d recommend her 1st love to other young females Zakie said “have passion since you can’t do this without it. Be focused on what you want to achieve” . SL

Motoring - NEW VW GOLF VS RIVALS

NEW VW GOLF VS RIVALS

This week SL gives you the lowdown on these rivals, VW Golf 2.0 TDI GT, BMW 116d M Sport and Ford Focus Titanium. These cars have been rivals for the king of the compact family class title.

We had to ask if the Volkswagen Golf can reclaim its family car crown. As it was tested against the 1 Series and Focus, here’s the lowdown on the test.
Until recently, the Volkswagen Golf was the undisputed king of the compact family class, but in the past 12 months it’s been overtaken by newer and more desirable rival the BMW 1 series. So now VW introduced the new 7th generation model and it’s out to reclaim its crown. While it looks similar to its predecessor, the Golf has a new lightweight construction, efficient new engines and a more spacious and upmarket cabin than before.
So, is the Golf back at the top of its game? Yes. One of the best cars in the class has got even better, as this latest Volkswagen is bigger, faster and more efficient than before. Factor in its top-notch refinement, hi-tech safety systems, and low running costs and spacious, upmarket interior, and it easily sets a new class standard. Yes, it looks a little expensive in GT trim, but then it comes packed with the sort of desirable kit that costs extra on its rivals. So after more than a year away from the top of the class, the Golf has reclaimed its place, as a king of the compact family class.

First up is our current class champ. The BMW 1 Series is great to drive, surprisingly practical, beautifully built and cost effective to run, and has hardly any chinks in its armour. The 1 Series is still a very desirable family hatch. Its premium image and price are offset by low running costs and great efficiency, while M Sport trim looks racy and has lots of kit. If driving fun is your priority, it’s still the number one choice. So can the BMW hold on to its crown in the face of an all-new Golf that’s bigger and better than ever?
Still, settle into the driver-focused cabin and the BMW does feel sportier than the Golf. The thick-rimmed M Sport steering wheel and heavily bolstered seats – plus classy details like the Estoril Blue line running across the dash – add a sense of theatre to an interior that’s far more logically designed. Build quality is strong, too, although the 1 Series doesn’t quite ooze class like the Volkswagen.
Still, this car has moved on in one area that always held the 1 Series back in the past. Even though it’s shorter than the Golf overall, it has a longer wheelbase, and that means space in the back is much improved – although it still feels a little cramped after the Ford and VW.
Normally, you’d expect a BMW to show its class at the track, but here the car was outgunned by the Golf, which delivers 34bhp more power and 80Nm more torque, at 148bhp and 320Nm. The 116d has identical power (114bhp) and torque (260Nm) outputs to the 116d was well over a second slower than the VW in all our in-gear tests, although it easily matched the more powerful Ford for outright pace. Yet any performance deficit is forgotten when you drive down a winding B-road, where the 1 Series’ brilliant chassis gets a chance to shine.
The controls are well weighted and accurate, and by using the Drive Performance Control button on the dash you can alter the set-up to suit your mood – from EcoPro to Sport+. The BMW’s diesel engine isn’t as refined as the VW’s, though, and on longer trips the firm M Sport suspension is more wearing, too.

Third place is no disgrace for the Ford given the talent it was up against. It’s the cheapest car here, looks distinctive and is brilliant to drive. But it’s not as efficient or fast, plus has a cramped boot and fussily designed cabin that trails on quality.
It’s certainly the most distinctive car here. With its bold mix of curves and creases, the five-door Ford is sleeker than the upright Volkswagen and slightly frumpy BMW. The Titanium model is further set apart by LED tail-lights, extra gloss black trim for the grille and optional 18-inch alloys – 16-inch wheels are standard.
Still, what the Focus lacks in upmarket appeal it makes up for with standard kit. As with the Golf, there’s a DAB radio, Bluetooth, an iPod connection and dual-zone climate control. It just can’t match the VW for safety kit – Active City Stop is part of optional Driver Assistance Pack, while adaptive cruise control is an extra.

The Ford claws back some ground in terms of space, as rear passengers get more head and legroom than those in the 1 Series, while there is lots of useful storage. But the cramped 316-litre boot trails the Golf’s by a huge 64 litres.
The 138bhp Focus also struggles to match the VW for pace. Not only does it give away 10bhp to the new car, it also weighs 67kg more, at 1,421kg. As a result, it was 1.2 seconds slower in the sprint from 0-60mph, and one-tenth slower than the less powerful 1 Series, with a time of 10.0 seconds. Still, on the road the Ford feels just as lively as the BMW, and is every bit as fun to drive.

A poised chassis has long been one of the trademarks of the Focus, and this is upheld by the current car. Sharp steering, strong grip and excellent agility make it more engaging in corners than the Golf. A slick and precise gearshift, progressive brakes and superb body control complete the dynamic master class. SL

Winter is dry, does your skin have to be dry too? NO !!!

Whether male or female, we all want to look good. And the face is the most common.

So the SL crew had a one on one chat with the owner/skin and body expect at the Royal African Spa at Acornhoek, Patricia confirming how simple it is to  keep your skin rejuvenated without hurting  your wallet, and your face.

Steps on how to keep your face moist for winter

1.       Firstly, a face scrub, scrub thoroughly your face with a face scrub. After washing your face, you now...

2.       Tone, by simply applying a face toner on the face to give it that dryness and still wash it off.

3.       Then you use a mask, apply a face mask leave it on for the required time on the product of use, wash it off and
      4.       Lastly for that glowing, rejuvenated and moist face, without any cracks you apply moisturizer and voila!!! Says a woman who seems to know what shes talking about. SL

Techno Savvy - Blackberry Z10 and Samsung Galaxy S4

So have you been saving for a new phone? Stasie lowdown got your back, let us help you on your quest of finding a better phone this Easter, here’s the 411 on possibly your new favourite gadget/life partner.
Today we review every ones favourite the long waited Smartphone, Blackberry Z10 and its rival Samsung Galaxy S4.
So Blackberry is not going down without a fight, since it has been in the news recently for not the right reasons. But for its competition with apple iPhone and android, a once-dominating Smartphone manufacturer has seen its stock sink in past recent years. Could this e the return of Blackberry with its newly launched Smartphone Z10?

So we at SL we went out to search the Lowdown on the Blackberry Z10
 BlackBerry Z10

Z10 Spec.
SIZE
Height 130 mm / 5.11 in
Width 65.6 mm / 2.58 in
Depth 9 mm / 0.35 in
WEIGHT
136g / 4.80 oz
NAVIGATION
All-touch screen, with intuitive gesture based navigation

DEDICATED KEYS
Volume Up/Down, Mute, Lock (for Power On/Off)

KEYBOARD
On screen BlackBerry Keyboard (portrait/landscape), featuring contextual auto-correction, next-word prediction, and a personalized learning engine that gets to know the way you type
The excellent messaging centre is complemented by the Z10's impressive keyboard. The accurate and responsive touch screen makes it easy to hit the right key, and there's no discernible lag between pressing a key and the phone responding. It's one of the best keyboards we've used so far.
SCREEN
The handset completed the Sun spider JavaScript benchmark in 1,724ms, which is around average. It certainly didn’t have any problems rendering web pages quickly, but we noticed an occasional stutter when zoomed in and panning around pages as the browser rendered images.
The Z10 has a 1,280x768-pixel screen, which is unusual compared to the 1,280x720-pixel displays we're used to seeing among Android Smartphone.
HOME SCREEN
Shows your currently-running apps as a series of cards, Palm OS-styleBlackBerry 10 also has a standard app tray containing several screens of icons, which you can rearrange by long-pressing and dragging apps to where you want them.
NON-SLIP RUBBER BACK
Is a winner however, it feels like it would survive plenty of abuse. There's no flex at all in the body, and the rubber rear means you're unlikely to drop it.

on the hand...
SAMSUNG GALAXY S4
We couldn’t get a chance to play with the Galaxy S4 so far, we went online and get some reviews for you. Early indications are that this is going to be a superb handset. S4 faces tough competition from its Android rivals and whatever Apple plans to release so far, but interest and demand for the phone remain high. As soon as we have our hands on a finished model, we'll bring you an up-to-date review.

S4
After months of speculation, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has finally been unveiled. With a larger screen, faster process and range of new features, it's the company's new flagship smartphone.
As such, it's got more power and more up-to-date features than the iPhone 5 and pre-empts the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are giving the lowdown on the phone and help us find out if it matches up to the hype.

SIZE

Galaxy S4 looks similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3, and it’s built on that phone's looks. The Galaxy S4 is a little bigger, thanks to its 4.99in screen, but not as much as you might think: at 136.6x69.8x7.9mm, it's roughly as wide as the S3, but around 5mm longer, and around 1mm slimmer. The result is the Galaxy S4 feels good in the hand and every bit as comfortable to hold as the S3. There are a few notable changes between the phones' designs, including a metallic banding running around the edge of the Galaxy S4.

Backside-illuminated (BSI)

It has a Backside-illuminated (BSI) sensor for better low-light sensitivity; the camera has been upgraded to a 13-megapixel model although there's also a flash for when it's really dark.

 SCREEN
The 4.99in Super AMOLED display is gorgeous. It has a Full HD, 1,920x1, 080 resolutions with a high pixel density of 441ppi. What's important is that everything looks pin-sharp and there's no danger of spotting individual pixels.

It’s worth noting that you can't directly compare the Galaxy S4 to LCD-based Full HD handsets, this is because Samsung continues to use a Super AMOLED display with a PenTile pixel arrangement.

 STORAGE
S4 will be available in versions with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of storage, although it's expandable by up to 64GB via the microSD card slot. Prices for the models haven't been announced yet, but it may well work out much better value to buy the 16B or 32GB models, and then upgrade storage as and when you need it

The right to be YOU

Stand up and be counted

We live in borrowed times, nothing is as promised anymore and the only shot YOU get at experiencing life the way YOU desire is proving to be nothing but sold dreams. Society has put expectations on human existence and behavior, limiting how we to express ourselves, silencing our voice, being left to tolerate the intolerable, leaving many living in hope. Be a responsible activist for what’s rightfully YOUrs and defy the odds, Put YOU first and claim YOUr place in the world, live life the best way YOU know how without compromising anyone, love YOUrself without boundaries, be responsible for YOU, make YOUrself happy because YOU are only given one shot, to be the YOU that YOU want to be, for YOU will never get the chance to be YOU ever again.

Happy Human Rights Day, YOU!

Events and Socials IMBIZO - 21 March 2013

NB: Mi longa ti cointainer na vatsongwana vari ahi nyama ahi nyama LOL

Where is Acornhoek today?

Or is it still stuck on the same shameful state that it’s always been, very little development. My throughout my entire existence, Acornhoek has always been the same.As for the municipality and its running’s, I wouldn't give it pointers. Let’s all as a community urge our officials to at least try to do best by us, after all we voted for them. Underlining on the BEE status, who’s benefiting from this, like really I know very little people who have made it big in reference to BEE or “tenders” as we
put it.
AN IMAGE OF WHAT USED TO A STOP SIGN JUST AFTER SPAR

The Culprits

Let’s be realistic but we all know that these so called tenders are awarded to friends or family members of municipal officials, how does this help helpless community members who've since become reluctant to
speaking out against poor service delivery and armatures who are awarded these deals.
The bent main entrance board at Tintswalo Hospital

Is Acornhoek ever going to be the ideal little town that we want and hope it will be? It raises doubt on my side? Growing up Acornhoek seemed like a little town that was going places, young as I was, I could see potential of a growing lil’township. I mean like we have a big hospital, a college (FET) and we were even graced with a youth centre (loveLife).
Where our Youth Used to hangout
But it all seem like it was all for nothing, Do you think there’s a chance for the small town to grow, or is this the end of what seemed like a promising future?

Be part of the Lowdown, Stasie Style

Here's the 411

Stasie Lowdown is an online portal aimed at bringing news and information from Acornhoek and surrounding areas as they happen, and when they happen.

Stasie Lowdown, is slang for Acornhoek Update. The word "Stasie" is an Afrikaans word for Station, and most people who are familiar with the origins of the small town will tell you that Acornhoek was refered to as"The Station" as it was one of the biggest railway stations in the Bushbuckridge region. As years went by and the use of slang grew, youngsters refered to "The Station" as it was affectionately known to "Stasie", hence the naming.

Stasie Lowdown commits itself to reporting on news that is accurate, factual and will not be harmful to sensitive readers, however this does not mean we are not welcome to the views, stories and content contribution by members of the community and general public at large. if you wish to inform the Stasie team of any stories and information that might be of interest to members of the community, feel free to email us on stasielowdown@gmail.com and that could lead to us publishing, researching and even investigating the story on your behalf.

From the Stasie Team, If it happened, we'll talk about it

Mihlolo ntseee!

Welcome to your brand new daily dose of everything Acornhoek and beyond... your pit stop to the daily lives of “Makhenhuku”( residents of Acornhoek).

First things first! #Deathby Maphorisa ma pfalaka DE’LACASA at 12 midnight! I mean SEROUSLY???? Who does that? I get that the licence states that the liquor outlet must operate till 12midnight, but must a whole entourage of five police vans be sent to shut down the hotspot, especially when there’s a shortage of police vehicles at Acornhoek Police Station. Instead of patrolling crime infested neighbourhoods they decide to go shut down a pub, on a Saturday night nogal, they sure have their priorities straight, NOT! It would be interesting to see how this story rolls out as time goes on but I can tell you now, this doesn’t look good, or could this be the return of Jazz Lapa? Or just plain good old sabotage? Only time will tell.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the local municipality for the water supply, given the near draught experience we’ve had in the past months its really refreshing to have clean running water for a change (as it should be). We’ve pretty much been enjoying the uninterrupted water supply for some weeks now, big ups to the team . Don’t mess it up, AGAIN!!

It’s almost Easter Friday, many roads will lead to Moria for the annual Easter gathering, while some will be spending time with family and friends leaving the usual suspects to binge on alcohol as usual. Take care of yourselves guys, no one has time to visit people in hospital during the Easter weekend so let’s stay away from trouble that can be easily avoided.

AND OH BEFORE I GO

Guwela lost his BMW car keys, Rosina claims to be pregnant with twins, Maplangu must Khumbul’ekhaya(Rolle) and I will be back again tomorrow.

PEACE !!!!
